Goldstream Provincial Park encompasses 477 hectares of spectacular old-growth coastal rainforest, offering some of Vancouver Island's most accessible wilderness experiences just minutes from Victoria. The park is world-famous for its annual salmon run (October-December) when thousands of chum salmon return to spawn in Goldstream River, attracting impressive numbers of bald eagles and creating an unforgettable wildlife spectacle.
The park features over 20 kilometers of hiking trails ranging from easy riverside walks to challenging summit climbs. The popular Goldstream Trestle Trail leads to a historic railway trestle with stunning views, while the Mount Finlayson summit trail rewards hikers with panoramic vistas of the Saanich Peninsula, Victoria, and Olympic Mountains after a steep 2.5-hour climb.
Goldstream's towering Douglas fir, western red cedar, and grand fir trees—some over 600 years old—create a cathedral-like atmosphere along shaded trails. The Freeman King Visitor Centre provides educational displays about the park's ecology, Indigenous history, and wildlife. Camping facilities accommodate RVs and tents, with some campsites nestled beneath old-growth forest canopy near the river.
